When someone comes to me for an appointment, most often they don’t know exactly what type of technique they would like, they just know they want to feel good when they are finished.
That is where a skilled therapist can take over to find the best strategy. When I am working on a client, I often use a variety of techniques and trainings in order to achieve the result the client is looking for. The initial consultation is the time for the client to let me know what areas might be bothering them and -importantly- what their goals are for the session.
Do you want to just relax and drift away? Or maybe you are in pain and need to focus on a certain problem? Are there any old injuries that I should be sensitive to? Most people have a combination of these desires; perhaps they have an ache in one area but would still like the rest of their body to get massage as well.
